A courtroom drama unfolding on a train

The movie begins with a group of mafia gang members breaking into Armstrong's mansion and kidnapping baby Daisy. Colonel Armstrong pays the ransom to the kidnapper, but his beloved daughter is found dead. The pregnant wife was so shocked that she miscarried and lost her life, and the maid, who was suspected of being part of the perpetrator, committed suicide. The heartbroken colonel also takes his own life (the plot is inspired by the real-life kidnapping of famous aviator Charles A. Lindbergh's child).

Twelve people connected to the Armstrong family plan a murder on the Orient Express in order to bring justice to Ratchet (Richard Widmark), the real criminal Cassetti (Richard Widmark), who has fled the country. But for them, this is more than just murder. After all, the execution of sentences is based on democratic procedures. When Colonel Arbuthnot (Sean Connery) is told of Ratchet's villainy by Poirot, he responds as follows:

"Then it was a well-deserved reward. The day of trial would have been near. At the hands of 12 jurors."

When I hear this statement, I imagine the movie `` 12 Angry Men '' (57) starring Henry Fonda. This is a masterpiece of courtroom drama, in which 12 jurors of different races, professions, and ages debate in search of The Truth. However, the courtroom only appears in the first few minutes, with the main stage being the dimly lit jury room. The truth of the murder case is unraveled in a closed room.

``Murder on the Orient Express'' can also be described as a ``courtroom drama without a courtroom,'' which takes place in the closed-door space of a train. The passengers form a jury of 12 and declare Ratchet "guilty", and Poirot judges their verdict. The director of `` 12 Angry Men '' was Sidney Lumet, the director of ``Murder on the Orient Express.'' He was an obvious choice for this project.
