In the works of Dario Argento, who also wrote the so-called "animal trilogy" of "The Fang of Joy ," " I Witness, " and " Four Flies " (1971), animals appear randomly. come. In particular, the scene where a dog attacks a human is already ``Argento''. In `` Suspiria ,'' pianist Daniel is bitten to death by his dog, and in `` Shadow ,'' the hotel manager's daughter Maria is chased around by a mad dog.

And in ``Dark Glasses,'' Nerea, a guide dog, appears. Fans who have followed his filmography can easily imagine that Nerea will defeat the criminal at this point. To be honest, there are no major theatrical surprises in this movie. Those who are targeted by the killer will surely be brutally murdered. Deanna and Chin will surely survive the night of terror. The story progresses in a predictable manner toward a predictable destination.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing this movie. In fact, I think that the film's strength as a film is achieved by distributing the Argento-like codes that can be considered as a promise throughout the film. And the elegant and breathtaking camera work. Intense nightmares are generated by pure visual euphoria.

“I think my films are great because they are the result of thorough research into set design and camera movements. They feature unique structures, journeys into the unknown, mysteries, brutal and bizarre murders, and Aztec rituals. These long shots of reminiscent violence are all connected to the image of this world that I talk about in the film.'' (*2)

There is a scene in which Deanna pleads with Chin, ``I want you to think of this as a nightmare, not reality.'' Dario Argento is truly a craftsman who has spent his entire life creating nightmares, sweet ones at that. Rather than the story itself, you should be captivated by Argento's codes, such as solar eclipses, mad dogs, strangulation, sunglasses, and water snakes, and by the camera work that complements them. He is a natural visualist who knows everything about film.
