Part 2: A closer look into Herbert's mind
Science fiction fans, and many movie fans in particular, will no doubt feel a certain sense of accomplishment from "Dune: Part Two" (hereafter referred to as "Part 2").
This is because, with "Part 2," Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi epic "Dune" (hereinafter "Dune") has been adapted into a film in a complete form.
What could be called lacking is the fact that the first feature-length film adaptation of this epic novel was released in 1984, with director David Lynch 's Dune (hereafter referred to as the Lynch version). The story lost its consistency due to production misalignments, and was also condensed to resemble a digest. Although it is a highly acclaimed cult work with a number of enthusiastic supporters, it cannot be denied that the film adaptation of Dune was somewhat disappointing.

Using Lynch's version as a lesson, director Denis Villeneuve and his crew have succeeded in coming up with the best possible solution for the screen adaptation of "Dune." The film retains the original's critical spirit against foreign expansionism, and firmly functions as an allegory for religion and ethnic issues. It also sounds a strong warning against human interference with nature and the destruction of land for resources, with the intensity changing according to the times, as does the danger of living in the nuclear age.
Above all, Paul (Timothée Chalamet), the heir to the royal family who has potential but is nothing, resists fate and trials and is encouraged to awaken as the savior of the entire universe. This strong storyline as a "hero myth" is beautifully manifested through "Part 2". The anxiety about peace that accompanies his rise and the fact that he is not praised for conformity are modern, but the film is full of creative confidence and unwavering in its belief that "this is how a reinterpretation and redefinition of the classics should be."
