Synopsis of "Radical"

Drugs and murder have become a part of daily life at this elementary school near the border. The children grow up in an environment where crime is always close by, there are insufficient educational facilities, the teachers are unmotivated, and the academic performance is the lowest in the country. However, when the new teacher, Juarez, is appointed, the children discover the joy of exploration through his unique and unconventional lessons, and the grades of the entire class improve dramatically. Ten of the students make it into the top 0.1% of the nation!

A huge hit in Mexico, attracting 3 million viewers

School is the first time a child steps foot outside of the familiar home, and while the kind of friends they make there are important, the presence and influence of teachers is equally important. For children, teachers are the first adults they come into contact with other than their parents. Because they are strangers with a large age gap between them, sometimes they can't understand each other unless they express their feelings, and sometimes seeing each other every day allows them to realize more about each other than parents and children.

There are many "school stories" that depict such relationships in the world. The first masterpiece of this genre that comes to mind is " Dead Poets Society " (1989), with Robin Williams's Mr. Keating's sonorous call of "Oh Captain!" Another moving work in recent years is " Freedom Writers " (2007), which teaches students to look at society and carve out their own path in life through "writing."

On the other hand, the protagonist of "The Radical" (23), which was a huge hit in Mexico with an audience of 3 million people, Mr. Juarez, should also be included as one of the teachers who will go down in film history. The role is played by Eugenio Derbez. He first came into the global spotlight in his role as the comical yet energetic music teacher (better known as "Mr. V") in the Oscar-winning " CODA " (21), who discovered the protagonist's talent.
