A beloved film that depicts one's own "failures"

It is common knowledge among movie fans that there are some lovable masterpieces among the less impressive films that have not been huge global hits or won any major awards. There are also some films that many people who have seen them are passionately drawn to, even if only a few people have seen them or know about them. The humorous human drama "High Fidelity" (2000) is one such film.

John Kesak, known for his work on " The Thin Red Line " (1998), " Identity " (2003), and " 2012 " (2009), co-produced, wrote the screenplay, and starred in the film. Stephen Frears, a masterful director who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on " The Grifters " (1990) and " The Queen " (2006), directed the film. This was also the breakout role for Jack Black, who later made his big break as a comedic actor in " School of Rock " (2003) and other films.

"High Fidelity" trailer

Here's a brief synopsis of the story. Rob, a music nerd in his 30s who runs a used record store in Chicago, is shocked when his live-in girlfriend Laura suddenly leaves him. He has no idea what he did wrong. After agonizing over it, he makes a list of his top five past love interests and visits each of them to try to find out why.

Just from this synopsis, you can probably imagine to some extent that the main character, Rob, is a loser. He seems to care about the other person, but in the end, he only thinks about himself. But wait a minute! Isn't that something that you and I have in common to some extent? We can easily see the "failures" of others, but it's hard to see our own. It is precisely because it depicts those "failures" so realistically that this film has become such a beloved movie. In this article, we will explain the appeal of "High Fidelity."
