Synopsis
Marlo (Charlize Theron), who is about to give birth to her third child, has a very busy life. Daughter Sarah (Lea Frankland) is unruly, but son Jonah (Asher Miles Fourica) is emotionally unstable. Today, Jonah is called by the principal of the elementary school that his siblings attend and is asked to hire a full-time teacher to support Jonah. Her husband, Drew (Ron Livingston), is kind, but he leaves the housework and childcare to his wife, and Marlo takes that for granted.
One day, Marlo's older brother Craig (Mark Duplass), who is a successful businessman and lives a luxurious life, offers to arrange for a babysitter for the night as a baby gift. Marlo, reluctant and feeling guilty about leaving her baby with a stranger, refuses, but Craig forces her sister to give him the sitter's phone number. Marlo safely gives birth to a baby girl, but her housework has increased tremendously. Furthermore, when he is called by the principal again and told that Jonah will be sent to a different school, he finally explodes with emotion and yells at the principal. When Marlo returns home, he realizes that he has reached his limit and asks for a nighttime babysitter. Marlo is stunned when a young woman named Tully (Mackenzie Davis) shows up at 10:30 p.m. She was wearing a T-shirt that showed her belly button and jeans, and suddenly she was a modern-day girl with a loose fit. However, when Marlo is confused, Tully confidently declares, ``Trust me,'' and urges Marlo to go upstairs and get some sleep.
When they woke up the next morning, Tally was gone, and the living room and kitchen on the first floor, which hadn't been cleaned in eight years, were spotless. Marlo smiles brightly for the first time in a while and says to her husband, ``Everything about her is perfect. Somehow, the world has become brighter.'' The Day After, Tally has continued to update its "perfection". Furthermore, he tells her that ``you have to take care of everything in your life,'' and listens to her stories and complaints, and even consults her about her worries, and before they know it, the two of them form a friendship. However, no matter what happens, Tally disappears before dawn and never talks about herself, such as what she does during the day.
