Alien vs. Predator synopsis
In 2004, a pyramid-like structure was discovered underground on Bouvet Island, and an investigation team from the large corporation Weyland Corporation headed to the site. The team consisted of scientists and soldiers, led by President Weyland. To ensure the team's safety, a female adventurer named Alexa was hired as an advisor. However, this underground pyramid was actually built by a Predator, who arrived on Earth long ago and bestowed civilization upon humanity. The Predator imprisoned a Queen Alien here, and once every hundred years, she would lay eggs as a ritual to be recognized as an adult. The Alien began attacking the expedition team one after another. Alexa, who was cornered, decided to confront the Alien alongside the Predator , who was undergoing the ritual.

Two long-loved series
When it comes to classic sci-fi films about alien creatures, the first two that come to mind are " Alien " (1979) and " Predator " (1987). Both have been made into franchises, with the former being made into a streaming drama series, " Alien: Earth " (2025), and the latter, " Predator: The Battle for President " (2025). New theatrical films are also currently in the works for both. Looking back, it's amazing how these films have remained beloved by fans for so long.
The Alien series is set in the future, while the Predator series is set in the present day, and while there is a big gap in the timelines depicted, the worldviews of the two have nevertheless intersected. This was the case with 2004's Alien vs. Predator(hereafter referred to as AVP). The project was made possible because both were produced by 20th Century Fox. While some initially thought it was a crazy idea, it was well received by fans. I was one of the enthusiastic fans at the time, and now I sometimes think it was an important work for both franchises. Here, I would like to discuss the appeal of this film.

Let's start by reviewing the basics. The alien creatures that appear in " Alien ," commonly known as "Alien," are animalistic and extremely ferocious. They hatch from eggs, parasitize other life forms, and then grow rapidly, becoming dangerous creatures that attack anything that moves. In contrast, the alien creatures in " Predator ," commonly known as "Predator," are closer to humans and have an advanced civilization, but they are still wild. They are the ultimate hunters, ruthlessly hunting down anyone they perceive as an enemy. Either way, they are a threat to humanity.
