London, 1950s. Reynolds is a genius tailor who reigns at the center of British fashion and is in the spotlight from society. One day, Reynolds meets waitress Alma and takes her as his new muse. He loved Alma's "perfect body" and continued to obsessively make dresses using her as a model day and night. However, Alma grows dissatisfied with Reynolds, who repeatedly ignores Alma's feelings and treats her with insensitivity, and one day he mixes a small amount of poison into her breakfast... Eventually, the two open the door to a forbidden love that cannot be turned back, and head to a state that no one could have imagined. Is this form of love distorted? Or is it pure love? Behind the scenes of gorgeous haute couture (high-quality tailored clothing), the sweetest and most frantic psychological battle of love in movie history begins!

Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis
Paul Thomas Anderson (PTA) says that he was inspired for his eighth feature, ``Phantom Thread,'' based on Daniel Day-Lewis.
There Will Be Blood ( 2007), in which he played a miner who rose to become an oil tycoon, and Lincoln (2012), in which he played the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. He spent an extraordinary amount of time preparing for his roles, and perhaps because of this, his soul seemed to burn to ashes after filming, as he repeatedly declared his retirement, and at one point he retired from the film industry, living as a shoemaker in Italy.

PTA was aware that the character Day-Lewis played in "There Will Be Blood " was a man who was consumed with greed and turned into an ugly monster in the end, and they felt they had to create a role that would utilize Day-Lewis's true personality as an elegant gentleman. Among various candidates such as doctor and artist, PTA set their sights on the profession of fashion designer to highlight Day-Lewis' beauty. Thus was born the man named Reynolds Woodcock, who runs a salon in London in the 1950s.
