Five. “The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese” (20) Director: Isao Yukisada 130 minutes

This work, which has been a hot topic even before its release, is sure to become a masterpiece that will determine the further evolution of Narita. The comic by Setona Mizushiro, who also directed the TV drama version of ``Shitsuren Chocolatier,'' is adapted into a film by director Isao Yukisada, whose ``Gekijo'' (2020) was well-received.

Kyoichi (Tadayoshi Okura), who tends to be carried away by others and has only had passive relationships, reunites with his junior colleague at university, Imagase, for the first time in seven years. Although he is confused when Imagase confesses, ``I've loved you ever since we met,'' he gradually accepts his feelings. However, many trials await them...

Director Yukisada has portrayed sexual love between a man and a woman, including resentment, in a mixed way. In this work, the characters centered on Kyoichi and Imagase come to know about love, are confused by love, and are saved by love, and the story depicts universal "feelings that transcend gender differences." ”, and even sublimated to “drive”. While it accurately depicts the R15+ rated love scenes, it also carefully depicts the changes that led up to it, such as the culmination of uncontrollable emotions.

In this work, Narita shows off a fascinating performance that conveys emotions such as love, jealousy, and obsession through the eyes. A gaze that appears soft yet ``strong'', as if deep feelings are flowing into her just by looking at her. The battle with Okura, who parries this and becomes unable to resist, is also a big highlight. You can enjoy not only the beautiful and painful love story, but also the high-level acting showdown.

I get the impression that many works with so-called LGBTQ themes have been produced recently, starting with ``Moonlight'' (2016), but there are also works such as ``Rage'' (16) and ``Kageura'' (2020). In Japan, the number is gradually increasing. It will be interesting to see how the release of this film will affect the production of subsequent films.

======

Narita has clearly evolved by taking on new "issues" with each work and achieving results that far exceed the passing mark. As mentioned at the beginning, the aura swirling around him has nothing to do with superficial beauty. In fact, it's really pleasant to watch how careless she is, even if she's willing to throw away beauty for the sake of her role.

Ryo Narita, an actor who is already in his 20s, exudes a maturity that is ``less rugged''. I'm really looking forward to seeing his future as he takes a path unlike others.
