2. “What’s Bad in Inferno?” (13) Director: Sion Sono 130 minutes

A violent action comedy that is full of the love and passion of the talented director Sono Sion. A unique cast of actors including Kunimura Jun, Hasegawa Hiroki, Sakaguchi Tak, Hoshino Gen, Nikaido Fumi, Tomochika, and Tsutsumi Shinichi come together to tell the innovative story of "filming a yakuza raid and making it into a movie."

The storyline of this film is roughly divided into three parts. It covers the youthful days to the present of Hirata (Hasegawa Hiroki), a movie-loving man who wants to "make the best movie," the conflict between rival yakuza members Muto (Kunimura Jun) and Ikegami (Tsutsumi Shinichi), and the suffering of ordinary citizen Koji (Hoshino Gen) who gets caught up in the affairs of Muto's daughter Mitsuko (Nikaido Fumi).

The cast's performances are a big attraction, but Hoshino's performance as Koji, who comically plays a man who ends up taking part in a yakuza raid, is particularly intense. He is beaten to a pulp and rolls his eyes, is surrounded by yakuza and scared to death, vomits a lot from his mouth, gets covered in cocaine and hustles, and screams while covered in blood - all of this is captivating with its furious energy.

In terms of his role, he is the only one who is "a common sense person close to the audience", and Hoshino's "eh... eh..." reaction is an important "anchor" that keeps the audience from being left behind in the aggressive work. Hoshino also sang the theme song for this work.

Director Sono's style of transforming gore and violence into entertainment has led to the film being highly praised at international festivals such as the Venice International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Fantastic Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award in the Midnight Madness category.

Hoshino is also actively involved in voice acting, and in the same year, the anime adaptation of the popular manga " Saint Young Men " (2013) was released. Hoshino also sang the theme song for this film.
