Q: Are there any other movies in which whiskey makes an impact?
Yamashita: The one that left the biggest impression on me was John Carpenter's " The Thing" (1982). Kurt Russell is drinking whiskey and loses a chess The Game against a computer, and in his anger, he pours the whiskey into the computer and destroys it. That scene was very memorable and I remember it. It's also because I love the movie itself and have seen it dozens of times.
Nishikawa: At the end, the two survivors try to drink whiskey again.
Yamashita: That's right, the two of them are left alone and say something like, "We'll see what happens." Also, in the Coen brothers' Miller's Crossing (1990), the main character Gabriel Byrne was drinking whiskey the whole time. What other movies were there?

Nishikawa: There seem to be a lot of ideas, but when you actually get down to it, it's hard to come up with any.
Yamashita: I've seen whiskey in a lot of movies up until now (laughs). Did whiskey appear in Jarmusch's " Stranger Than Paradise " (1984)?
Q: Yes, you always carried a bottle of whiskey with you and drank it little by little.
Yamashita: I see, now that you mention it, that's true. The way he drank it was so familiar to me that I might have just been watching it without realizing it was whiskey.
Nishikawa: That's really true in American and British films. Everyone drinks it as a matter of course, and it's a part of everyday life. Ken Loach's " The Angels' Share " (2012) was a whiskey film. In " The Iron Lady " (2011, directed by Phyllida Lloyd), Meryl Streep was drinking whiskey throughout the film. Apparently Thatcher actually liked whiskey. I think whiskey looks cool when it's played by British actors or in films set in the UK, so when I drink it, I often choose Scotch.

Nishikawa: Macallan appears in " Skyfall " (Director: Sam Mendes, 2012). There is a scene where Bond (Daniel Craig) is brought to Gunkanjima by the villain Silva (Javier Bardem). Silva puts whiskey in a shot glass and places it on the head of his girlfriend, who has fallen in love with Bond. He tells Bond to shoot it. At first, Bond misses the shot, but when Silva shoots the woman and the glass falls, he mutters, "What a waste of whiskey." The one he uses at that time is a "50-year-old Macallan." Watching this, I couldn't help but want to drink it, thinking that this must be a delicious whiskey.
