Tetsuya Inagaki , a TV director who regularly writes articles for CINEMORE, took the stage at a PFF special lecture. I will report on my conversation with Kenichi Sasaki, also a director, about how to face the challenge of ``making a living by making the works I want to make''!

In 19 years, only two projects that I really wanted went through!

There is no end to the number of young people who aspire to become film directors because they want to make films similar to their own. However, in today's world, there is no clear path to becoming a film director as a profession, and many people choose to work in video production or television program production instead of directing films. Is it really possible to create the program you want there?

Director Tetsuya Inagaki, who produced the program, and director Kenichi Sasaki, who supported the realization of the project, based on the documentary program " Takeshi Birth ~ Oira no Shishou to Asakusa ~ " that was broadcast on NHK BS Premium that traces the origins of the comedian Takeshi. , talked about ``the art of creating TV programs you really want to see.''

Mr. Inagaki says, ``I've been working in program production for 19 years, but this ``Takeshi's Birth'' and one other program were the only ones that went through that I really wanted to see.Part 2 It's just books.'' Mr. Inagaki belongs to a production company called Ucom. He is usually involved in program production as a producer of information variety shows on commercial broadcasting Golden. ``The television industry has a wide range of opportunities, and you can make a living there, but not all the projects you want to do will go through,'' says Inagaki.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sasaki is the director of NHK Educational. Their relationship is such that Sasaki mediates and proposes projects to NHK that are put forward by Inagaki from the production company. The two meet at a year-end party and hit it off, and end up working on various projects. ``Sasaki-san thought my project was interesting. It was really interesting to talk about the project together. My project seems like a maniac, so it's usually hard for people to accept it (lol), but Sasaki... It was different. It was the first time I had met someone who told me that what I wanted to do was interesting, so meeting Mr. Sasaki was a shock," Inagaki says.

``Mr. Inagaki's original plan for ``Takeshi's Birth'' is almost unchanged from the finished program. In other words, he was able to accomplish exactly what he really wanted to do with this program.'' ``However, this project... It took a considerable amount of time and various hurdles to come to fruition,'' Sasaki reveals.
