What surprised me was Andrea Riseborough's performance as the main character, Leslie. ``To Leslie'' (22) is a movie set in a rural town in Texas, USA. It's a story of emotional redemption from a life of defeat that is leveled across America. More specifically, it is a story of the salvation of a ``losing mother.'' It may not be the best of the year or anything like that. But it's a memorable movie.

50 years ago on June 23rd, ``Last Tango in Paris'' was released in Japan. Director Bernardo Bertolucci depicts the fate of a love affair between a middle-aged man and a young woman from a cold-hearted perspective that belies the fact that he was 31 years old at the time of filming. This work has no shortage of scandalous topics due to its extreme content and depiction, but it is also full of experimental ambition and culminates in a high level of theme and craftsmanship. The influence it had on subsequent films is immeasurable.
