“Origin of Love” is one of the most famous songs that sings the “origin of love”

The rock musical ``Hedwig and the Angry Inch'' (2001) is a treasure trove of great songs, both as a musical and in the context of rock'n'roll. The main character, ``Hedwig,'' was born in East Berlin during the Cold War, and while unable to fully transform into a woman through crude sex change surgery, she wears flashy make-up and costumes and openly records her turbulent life in song. I talk about it. All of the songs were written by rock musician Stephen Trask for John Cameron Mitchell, who played Hedwig and directed the film version.

The Hedwig and the Angry Inch movie is based on the Off-Broadway play of the same name that premiered in 1998, but it took four years to develop it into a musical. At the time, Trask was music director at Squeezebox, a New York drag queen show club that hosted rock celebrities like Deborah Harry and Joey Ramone . John Cameron Mitchell appeared on stage as “Hedwig.” Mitchell, who was a stage actor active on Broadway, became a hot topic when he performed alongside real drag queens, and over time it developed into a musical.

``Origin of Love'' was the first song Trask wrote for Hedwig, and symbolizes the work ``Hedwig and the Angry Inch.'' “Hedwig” goes back to mythical times and sings that humans were once paired together, but were separated by the wrath of God. Human beings begin to search for the other half that has been torn apart and scattered elsewhere in the world, and this is said to be the ``Origin of Love.''

In the film, the song, narrated with wonderful animation by Emily Hubley , is played again at the end of the film, bringing the story of Hedwig to a conclusion.

If you find your other half somewhere, you will find your true self. This romantic yet heartbreaking search can be called the story of "Hedwig." And the simpler Hedwig's wishes are, the more this movie transcends gender and sexual preference and makes everyone feel like they are all the same.
