"Les Misérables" A microcosm of the world of despair and anger in the suburbs of Paris

The power distribution of a city where nationality, religion, and ethnicity are intricately intertwined

Now, let's introduce the residents that the trio of police officers encounter. First, there are the African immigrants and their children. The boss of the housing complex, who they call "Mayor," has a trademark soccer shirt with "MAIRE" (mayor) printed on the back. Others include Muslims controlled by Salah, who runs a kebab shop, Roma (a nomadic people from Central and Eastern Europe) who perform circuses in the city, and a drug cartel controlled by Hyena, who the police officers turn to in times of emergency.

In other words, the Bosque is a microcosm of 21st century Europe, where nationalities, religions and ethnicities all blend together, and in the sense that it is filled with despair and anger brought about by poverty and discrimination, it can also be said to be a microcosm of the world.

Then, an incident occurs. An African immigrant boy, Issa, steals a baby lion from a circus troupe, causing a clash between the police team searching for the culprit and the children. In the process, Gwada, in a panic, fires a smoke bomb at Issa's face. The situation becomes even more complicated when one of the boys is filming the scene with a drone. The police team, desperate to get their hands on the footage, begs the hyenas, who are skilled in behind-the-scenes operations as usual, while the children ask the mayor for help, and the drone boy rushes into Salah's shop.

The mayor approaches Salah, wondering if he can take this opportunity to crush the police, who are always extremely tyrannical, but the two of them can never become one. Thus, the story develops into a four-way confrontation between the mayor, Salah, the police, and the hyenas on the police side. The true faces of the groups that existed separately in the small town become clear, and the story is very thrilling.

Also, the tyrannical police officer Chris has a family to protect, and Guada, a second-generation immigrant himself, is in a situation where he loses sight of himself in the midst of the chaos. It is heartbreaking to see that no one in this film is born evil, including Stefan, who is the most calm of the three and can judge right from wrong.

Who on earth drove them to this point? When the devastation of society, which can no longer be repaired by a conscience like Stefan's, is summed up in the title "Les Misérables Miserables," everyone will be left speechless.
