Of course, just being visually striking is meaningless. The reason Cronenberg is called a genius is because the themes of his stories are closely connected.

The Interzone that the main character Lee escapes to is, after all, nothing more than a world of escapism. There are times when a devastated person needs escapism. For some it might be alcohol, for others it might be music, for others it might be companionship. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes people become addicted to such escapism. And there are also mysterious powers that take advantage of this. In this work, Cronenberg shows off the composition of such a world. Isn't this a theme that also applies to modern society?

Of course, this is just one example of a basic interpretation. Cronenberg's works, full of imagination, eschew detailed explanations through words, provoking viewers with sensational stories and horrifying visuals, and throwing something powerful at the viewer's heart. Co-producer Gabriela Martinelli has this to say about the film: "Whether it's going to be a good trip or a bad trip is up to the beholder. One thing is for sure: no one can be left indifferent."

The report that Lee wrote at the prompting of the creatures eventually became the novel Naked Lunch . The film can also be seen as a fantasy that sheds light on the spiritual journey Burroughs went through in writing this difficult novel.

It's true that it's far removed from the original. However, in a sense, it is a beautiful ``film adaptation'' in which there is deep respect for the author and the original work, and that respect has blossomed to the point of being grotesque. I would like you to experience a trip to a strange world at least once.
