“Romidjuli” cooked by Baz Luhrmann

``Romeo and Juliet,'' affectionately known as ``Romijuli, '' was made into a movie even before Baz Luhrmann wrote it, and since it was originally a play, it is still performed on stages around the world. Even if the original work is the same, no two works are the same. Not only the cast and director (director), but also the costumes and sets are different, so the feel of the work is completely different.

As mentioned in the previous chapter, this work, ``Romeo + Juliet,'' can be said to be the pinnacle of this. A conflict between clans turns into a gang war. High tension from the beginning. The characters are introduced at high speed, the colors are flamboyant, and there are songs and dances. It's so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh, but then you're caught off guard and a literary and romantic line pops out at you. Although this work is a bold adaptation, the element of ``love'' found in the original ``Romidjuli'' is carefully handled in this work as well.

The main stage is "Verona Beach". When you think of a beach, you're bound to find blue sea and blue sky. However, they are separated by horizontal lines and never intersect. This is a law of nature that was determined long before Shakespeare was born. It's like Romeo and Juliet, trying to communicate is difficult.

I would also like to pay attention to the ``love'' depicted in this work. A young man and woman meet on the night of a party thrown by the Capulet family, but only through an aquarium. The two meet through the "blue water" and instantly fall in love. Although the tank is small, the fish in the water dance gracefully. You are free within that space. I wish Romeo and Juliet had a space like that where everything blends into one another - the scene that occurs later in the pool at the Capulet house is where that happens.

After all, Romeo sneaks into the party of the rival Capulet family. If that fact is found out, you will have to leave the place immediately. However, he wants to see Juliet again, so he climbs over a high wall and meets her again by the pool. Then, Juliet, who was surprised by Romeo's sudden appearance, falls into the water. Fall in love, fall into water.

The pool, which has been transformed into "blue water" by the lighting, is a space for just the two of you. In this scene in particular, the happy scene of the two in the water is depicted in a relentless manner. Just like a fish that is suddenly taken ashore, Juliet uses "blue water" to pretend to be dead. Baz Luhrmann uses this ``blue water'' to cook ``love'' in ``Romidjuli.''
