Starring Fumi Nikaido, who was also the driving force behind the planning of the movie "River's Edge"

2018's new movie ``River's Edge'' is a live-action version of the masterpiece manga released a quarter of a century ago by genius manga artist Kyoko Okazaki, with astonishing precision. It is said that Fumi Nikaido, who played the lead role, was the first to move toward making this miraculous film into a movie.

She first met director Isao Yukisada at the Busan Film Festival. According to an interview with director Yukisada in the Winter 2018 issue of Eiga Geijutsu, it appears to have taken place in October 2015, when he attended the film festival with Pink and Gray (although Nikaido said it was actually in 2014). In the same year, she participated in the Busan Film Festival with her leading role, `` My Man .'' A few months The Day After, the two met again in Tokyo. At that time, Nikaido suddenly broached the subject: ``Are you interested in ``River's Edge''?'' ``Actually, I want to make it into a movie, but I don't have the time anymore. I feel like I've grown up,'' he said (from `` Bungei Bessatsu Kyoko Okazaki Expanded Definitive Edition '' by Kawade Shobo Shinsha). By the way, the person who introduced Nikaido to director Yukisada at the Busan Film Festival was Kim Ki-duk, Korea's most talented director.

Nikaido first met Nikaido when he was 16 years old, after being recommended to him by the art staff of `` Himizu '' (director Sion Sono's film adaptation of Minoru Furuya's masterpiece manga), which won the Marcello Mastroianni Award (best new actor) at the Venice Film Festival. I read the original work by Kyoko Okazaki. From this point on, the baton relay of Kyoko Okazaki's culture from serious fans to the younger generation had already begun.

Then, about six months later, someone happened to come to her with a plan to make River's Edge into a movie. At the time, I was 17 years old and an active high school student. However, that seems to have disappeared in the end. However, the spark continued to linger inside Nikaido, and the flames would eventually grow larger and larger.

What kind of coincidence was this? Nikaido also gained a connection with musician Kenji Ozawa, who is Kyoko Okazaki's ally. Ozawa had commented on `` Near, Far Nikaido Fumi Photo Book '' (Space Shower Books), which was published in December 2015 and was photographed by Chad Moore, a new generation photographer from New York. Nikaido is starring in the film based on Kyoko Okazaki's novel, for which Ozawa provided a new song, ` `Arpeggio (Bet it at the end of the magic tunnel). '' This is no coincidence or mere commercial imperative. You can see that this is a collaboration based on a solid sense of trust.

In other words, it was Fumina Nikaido who led the project to make ``River's Edge'' into a movie and became the unifying force in every sense of the word. In addition, Ryo Yoshizawa, who plays Yamada, a high school boy with a complex sense of self and sexuality, co-starred with Nikaido in `` Wolf Girl and Black Prince '' (2016/Director: Ryuichi Hiroki). Yuko Sebu, who composed the music for this work, also participated in the ``River's Edge'' group.
