Unique director Peter Yates, a “former racing driver”

Jacqueline Bisset plays Bullitt's girlfriend Cassie, and Don Gordon plays Britt's boss Detective Chief Delgetti. Robert Vaughn, known for his role as Solo in Napoleon Solo (TV series: 64-68), was cast to play the overbearing politician Walter Chalmers. Vaughn did not like the script he received and initially refused to star in the role, but reluctantly agreed to appear on the condition that he be paid a large amount of money. However, in later years, he became such a favorite that he declared, ``My best performance was in Bullitt.'' At the same time, Vaughn confessed that he didn't understand the scenario properly, but no, the story is really that complicated! ?

The director was Peter Yates, an Englishman. It's an oddball that was originally used as a professional racing driver. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, he gained experience under directors Jack Cardiff and Tony Richardson, and worked on ``Let's play with the sun!'' ” (63) made his directorial debut. In his second film, The Great Train Robbery (1967), he made full use of his background as a former racing driver and produced a realistic car chase. Steve McQueen was impressed with Yates' performance and directly selected him.

When Big Yates decided to take on the big project, the first thing he did was convince Warner Bros. to give him a new Arriflex camera. In order to ensure the reality of a detective drama, it is essential to shoot on location rather than on a set. To do this, they thought they needed a lightweight Arriflex camera that could increase the flexibility of on-location shooting.

As a result, ``Bullitt'' was shot entirely on location. And by using the new Ariflex camera, a car chase full of realism is realized.
