Sensitivity to alienation

Terry Zwigoff, who gained critical acclaim for his documentary Crumb (1994), which follows cartoonist Robert Crumb , who is also known for creating the artwork for Janis Joplin's album jackets, was recommended by his wife to Ghost World was also produced by David Lynch) . Then he met Daniel Clowes, Robert Crumb's messenger and author of Ghost World. Terry Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes spent two years writing the script. The making-of footage for this film features an unusual filming scene in which the original author is always sitting next to the director, looking at the monitor.

Before Enid's sense of alienation, there is the alienation that Seymour (Steve Buscemi), a country blues record collector who lives a life unrelated to love, experiences from society. The character of Seymour, which is different from the original, reflects much of the thoughts of director Terry Zwigoff. The character Seymour is an excuse to reject the studio's offer of ``pop music appropriate for a movie about teenage girls,'' but it also reflects the director's tastes, who, like Seymour, is an avid record collector. . Seymour's room, filled with antiques and records, was modeled after Terry Zwigoff's room.

At first, Enid approaches Seymour with the intention of playing a prank on him, but when she witnesses Seymour's alienation from society, she begins to compound Seymour's alienation with her own. ``Ghost World'' can be said to be a work that shows a sensitivity that sets it apart from other works. The story of a girl named Enid depicts people who feel alienated from society and accept humiliation without being noticed. , he probably senses it with his strong sensitivity. They have naturally learned how to accept the humiliation they receive from society, or how to avoid humiliation, in order to protect themselves. Enid feels indescribable regret and anger as she identifies herself with that figure.

This is cruelly illustrated in the remedial art class where his "art" work of putting a tampon in a teacup is praised, and his own work is denigrated. The same thing is repeated in the later masterpiece ` `Art School Confidential '' (2006), in which Terry Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes team up again. Even words of praise from others can become a source of misunderstanding, lack of understanding, and feelings of alienation.
