“Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song” Synopsis

Maruko liked the song ``Menkoi Kouma'' that she learned in music class. The theme of the art class was ``My Favorite Song,'' and Maruko chose ``Menkoi Kouma'' as the theme. After school, Maruko visits a painter she met the other day and consults with her about how to express the song ``Menkoi Kouma'' in pictures. There, Maruko learns the rest of the song ``Menkoi Kouma'', which she did not learn at school. This song was not the peaceful song that Maruko had imagined...

The strongest music anime that never gets old even after 30 years

Although there is no video distribution or physical release, there are movies that attract audiences on the rare occasion that they are shown in theaters as a revival. `` Chibi Maruko-chan : My Favorite Song'' was released in 1992 as the second animated movie based on the popular manga ``Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song.''

30 years since the first release. The screening material is 35mm film from the time, and it is not in good condition as it has deteriorated over time and has many scratches (the only other way to watch it is to find old VHS videos or laser discs). However, when it was screened at Jimbocho Theater during Golden Week this year, it was sold out every day and there was a scramble for tickets. There seem to be a lot of repeat customers, but they come from a wide range of age groups, so I don't think they're just attracted to nostalgia.

So what is it about this movie that attracts people so much? This is probably due to Momoko Sakura's skillful storytelling that makes you cry from an everyday perspective, and the pleasure brought by the moving pictures that can only be experienced through anime. The biggest feature of this film is that it is a true music film. Momoko Sakura, who is the original author, planned the project, and wrote the script, wrote songs such as Disney's " Fantasia " (40), which she loved since she was a child, and The Beatles' " Yellow Submarine " (68). He said he wanted to make a movie that had plenty of musical scenes to match.

Perhaps reflecting Momoko Sakura's musical tastes, the song selection is also elaborate. The dynamic scene in which Maruko is given a ride in Hanawa-kun's Rolls-Royce is from Eiichi Otaki's ``1969 Drag Race .'' Haruomi Hosono's ` `Haraiso '' features a fantastic scene in which he admires the drawings of a painter he befriends. There are also songs with dark lyrics, such as ``Hoshi wo Taeku '' by ``Tama'', who was close friends with Momoko Sakura, that at first glance you can't tell that they are suitable for children.

Also, every musical scene has elaborate animation that could almost be described as druggy, making it a first-class art music video. What's more, the young genius Masaaki Yuasa, who later made his directorial debut with `` Mind The Game '' (2004), was in charge of the parts for ` `1969 Drag Race '' and Shizuko Kasagi's ` `Shopping Boogie '', and with his sharp expressions, he was able to create a ``visual film''. Since he has demonstrated his full potential as a magician, it is only natural that he has become a legend after 30 years.

In particular, the licentious sequence in which the screen is filled with obahan and old men to the nonsensical lyrics of " Shopping Boogie " and Shizuko Kasagi's Kansai dialect singing has nothing to do with the story, but the purity of the expression stands out. Once you see it, it leaves a strong impression that you will never forget.
