Nicolas Cage vs Charles Manson
The Sharon Tate murder case is what most people think of when they watch the action thriller ``Mandy'' starring Nicolas Cage. In August 1969, actress Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski and eight months pregnant, was murdered by members of a cult who invaded her home. The person who ordered the murder (actually the target was someone else) was cult leader Charles Manson.
``Mandy'' depicts the revenge of Red, a man played by Nicolas Cage, whose wife was brutally murdered by a cult led by a man named Jeremiah. The way he is portrayed is very conscious of Manson, such as his mysterious past and the fact that he only instructs his followers to commit murders, but never commits them himself.
Already 50 years have passed since the incident, and Charles Manson himself died in prison last year, but the incidents caused by Manson and his cult continue to have an impact on video and music creators. The Sharon Tate murder case is also the subject of Quentin Tarantino's new film , Once Upon a Time in Hollywood .

Manson is the perfect person to project the dark side of modern American history, and his mysterious words and deeds are a rare presence that stimulates creators' desire to create. To put it in a slightly unkind way, Manson could be said to be the perfect material for a ``geek'' director who wants to express his love for movies and pop culture in his work.
Panos Cosmatos (born 1974), the director of Mandy, has never hidden his love for the culture of the 70s and 80s, and the setting of the film in 1983 was a nod to that era. It is said that it is a thing. In fact, designs that otakus like are scattered throughout ``Mandy.''
