Something engraved in the last scene and passed down to subsequent works.

Just before filming the final scene, Inarritu spoke with lead actor Emilio Echevarria for about an hour. Naturally, they also talked about his late son Luciano. Later, when the staff was discussing whether to include this scene in the film, Inarritu insisted, "As a father, I really want to include it."

In this monologue scene, the protagonist speaks for the first time about the pain he has been carrying and conveys his unchanging love for his daughter, in an attempt to hold onto the hope that they may one day be reunited. In addition, Iñárritu speaks powerfully, as if he were talking about himself:

"People who have lost their purpose (like the protagonist) need something to fill the hole in their hearts."

These words not only describe the protagonist's inner thoughts, but are also proof that the film itself, "Amores Perros," was "something that filled the hole in his heart" for Iñárritu.

"21 Grams" Trailer

After this film garnered international acclaim, he released 21 Grams (2003) and Babel (2006). These stories, which he created with screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga, each featured multiple characters and episodes that alternated, with the theme of "loss" emerging. In Biutiful (2010), the style changed drastically, but the story left a stronger impression of death than ever before, with Javier Bardem playing a man who can see the dead.

"The Revenant" trailer

The theme seemed to soften for a moment in " Birdman ," but the sequel, " The Revenant ," was a work that imprinted the image of a father who lost his son and survives with a strong vitality, desperately trying to challenge fate. In this way, similar themes are repeated like ebb and flow within him. At the same time, they are gradually transformed as they are repeated many times, and it seems that the "rebirth" part of Inarritu's recent works has become deeper.
