"Children of Men" synopsis
The year is 2027, 18 years have passed since the last human child was born. For humans who are no longer able to produce descendants without knowing the cause, is there no choice but to perish? In a world that has lost hope, violence and disorder are spreading without limit. While countries around the world are in turmoil, the British government is barely maintaining public order by closing borders and cracking down on illegal immigrants. One day, Theo, a bureaucrat at the Department of Energy, is abducted by the anti-government organization "FISH" led by his ex-wife Julian. A monumental science fiction movie whose importance increases with each passing year.
My heart still hurts when I think about this movie. The earnest storyline is full of rawness that will leave you suffocated, and this work was sufficiently persuasive to serve as a ``prediction'' of the dark future that may come before long.
Despite being a shocking masterpiece with such a transparent perspective, it did not do well at the box office at the time of its release (2006) (which is also one of the reasons why it is so heartbreaking). At that year's Academy Awards, the film was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Editing, and Cinematography.
But what do you think when you look back on it now? ``Children of Men'' seems to be gaining more and more importance as the countdown to 2027, the year in which the story takes place, progresses. As proof of this, in 2016, the BBC (Reference: 1) asked 177 film critics to rank them as the best films of the 21st century, and ranked the film in 13th/100th place. He is showing off his hard work.

The film depicts a future in 2027 where humanity has lost its ability to reproduce, and no new life has been born for about 18 years. It seems that many countries around the world have already suffered catastrophic damage from terrorism, war, famine, environmental pollution, etc. (no specific mention is made), but the UK is the only country that has closed its borders for eight years and is barely maintaining order. I am struggling to maintain this. Refugees try to survive in the area, and those detained spend their days in ghetto-like holding areas awaiting deportation.
According to the movie site ``Vulture'' (reference: 2), the idea of making this film came to director Alfonso Cuaron in 2001. While he was at a loss as to how to increase his chances, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks occurred in the United States. Just then, Cuaron was presenting his own directorial film, Mouth of Heaven, End of Paradise, at the Toronto Film Festival. ” (01), but the return Flight was canceled due to the chaos caused by the terrorist attack. While stranded for several days, he exchanged words with actor García Garcia Bernal and others who accompanied him, and reflected on various thoughts about what kind of times lie ahead. From there, the motivation to move Children of Men forward naturally began to ignite.
The planning period was longer than expected. Cuaron once left the project for `` Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azgovan '' (2004), but living in London during the filming of Harry Potter gave him the opportunity to think more deeply about ``Children of Men.'' . Getting to know the city, talking to people, taking photos, and reading a lot of related books. In this way, my morale suddenly increased and I became well-equipped with knowledge and information. Then, in 2005, the studio's top executives finally shook their heads and gave the green light for production of Children of Men.
