Tomoya Nakamura made his acting debut in 2005 and will be celebrating his 15th year as an actor this year. Although he is now such a popular actor that there is no time when you don't see his face in movies, TV dramas, on stage, and in commercials, his path was not always smooth sailing.

From the early stages of his debut, he appeared as Kobayashi in the omnibus ``Ranpo Inferno'' (2005), in which genius director Akio Jissoji and others participated, and in the war movie ``I Will Die for You'', which was executive produced and written by Shintaro Ishihara. Although he played a memorable role as a suicide bomber in ``Niku'' (2007), his real breakthrough has been in the last two to three years. I have endured a long period of hiatus.

However, that's precisely why Nakamura's acting exudes an air of mastery that makes it hard to believe he is only 33 years old this year. His ability to play characters ranging from innocent, boy-like characters to dangerous characters who are the embodiment of madness is perhaps his unique weapon.

Tomoya Nakamura is a man you can't miss. This time, we will introduce 10 carefully selected films from his recent appearances.

1. “Hoshigaoka Wonderland” (16) Director: Sho Yanagisawa 111 minutes

This is Nakamura's second lead role in a movie following ``SPINNING KITE'' (13). This is a human mystery about a young man who works as a station employee at Hoshigaoka Station and takes care of lost property as he searches for the truth behind the death of his mother, who disappeared 20 years ago.

Nakamura gives a detailed portrayal of the naive protagonist, who is trapped by the illusion of his mother who left him. He perfectly portrays a complex character who has intense emotions in his heart but is unable to express them.

Throughout the film, the ``reminiscence'' effects, such as snow falling inside the car, and the mysterious atmosphere leave an impression. Also starring are Hirofumi Arai, Nozomi Sasaki, Masaki Suda, An, Hayato Ichihara, Yoshino Kimura, and Yutaka Matsushige.

In addition, Nakamura appeared in the same year's ``Japan's Most Bad Guys'' and appeared in the drama ``Incidents with girls usually happen in the bathroom.'' ” (15), he participated in the filming of director Kazuya Shiraishi. He plays a timid detective who is at the mercy of a police officer (Go Ayano) who has a strained sense of justice and engages in corruption. After that, it led to the director's most memorable work, ``The Blood of the Wolf.''

2. “Gugyoroku” (17) Director: Kei Ishikawa 120 minutes

A shocking suspense film in which Satoshi Tsumabuki and Hikari Mitsushima play brother and sister. A reporter for a weekly magazine who investigates the brutal murder of a family of office workers comes face to face with the ugly true nature of humans.

One year has passed since the family murder incident that caused an uproar. In order to re-investigate a case that still has many mysteries, the main character, a reporter (Tsumabuki), begins interviewing the people involved. What emerged from the testimony was the ``inner side'' of the victim's family, which seemed to be perfect.

A major feature of this work is that the person giving the testimony is surrounded by desires such as jealousy, envy, calculation, and selfishness. Nakamura plays a college classmate of the wife of the murdered family. He portrays a complex character with a gloomy face, disguised as a cheerful young man, with exquisite contrast.

As the title suggests, this work depicts people's "foolishness" in a dark manner. It is a work with an extremely high level of perfection in terms of direction and structure, with an opening scene reminiscent of ``The Usual Suspects'' (1995) and surprising developments.

3. “Teacher! Can I fall in love with you?” ” (17) Director: Takahiro Miki 113 minutes

A love story starring Toma Ikuta and Suzu Hirose as a teacher and student. Director Takahiro Miki, a master of youth romance films, said, ``We still don't know the name of the flower we saw that day.'' He teamed up with Mari Okada, the scriptwriter for ``. The original work is a popular manga by Kazune Kawahara.

A 17-year-old high school girl feels love for the first time. However, the other person was a teacher... Hirose vividly plays Hibiki, the heroine who conveys her feelings in a straight-forward, yet awkward manner, while Ikuta carefully portrays Ito, the struggling teacher who puts Hibiki's future first.

In this work, Nakamura plays Ito's colleague. He is a popular person at school, and is liked by Hibiki's classmates, but he also likes the teacher at work...he is a mirror image of Ito.

As a side note, Nakamura's work in the second half of 2017 included ``March Comes in Like a Lion,'' in which he played a light-hearted shogi player, ``Warau Maneki Neko'' (17), in which Fumika Shimizu and Rena Matsui played the manzai duo, and a sports manga based on the naginata. Characters and works with bright atmospheres followed, such as the live-action film adaptation of ``Asa Hinagu'' (2017).
