Discerning art and revolutionary visual effects

The series was filmed over 400 days across New Zealand. The Shire, where the main character Frodo (Elijah Wood) and his friends live, was constructed several months before filming, and the production team was very particular about it, including exposing it to the elements to give it a realistic feel. Even if you watch it now, even though it is a fantasy, you can visually experience it as a ``real world''. In other words, it doesn't feel bulky or new. It can be said that the painstaking effort put into building the worldview is one of the reasons why it is still loved so deeply.

WETA Digital, which became famous with this series, has also made a great contribution. The VFX studio was originally founded by director Jackson, and worked on the visual effects for the Lord of the Rings series, winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for all three films. He has now become an indispensable presence in the film industry, having been involved in films such as Avatar (2009), MCU, and DC movies.

In ``The Lord of the Rings,'' which has many battle scenes, the CG characters in the crowd were given ``thinking'' and ``we had input that made it seem like some were running away from the battlefield.'' Also, what was truly groundbreaking was the famous character Gollum. This character, which was created using a combination of CG and motion capture, was revolutionary and had a huge influence on subsequent film production.

Looking at the cast, there are veterans such as Christopher Lee and Ian McKellen (the role of Gandalf played by McKellen was originally offered to Sean Connery, but he declined), Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Sean Bean, and other somber faces stand out.

Elijah Wood, who made his film debut in ` `Back to the Future Part 2 '' (1989), has appeared in ``Dangerous Play'' (1993), ``August Memoirs'' (1994), and ``Deep Impact'' (1998). A star who used to be a child actor. He reportedly sent an audition video to director Jackson and got the role of Frodo (Jake Gyllenhaal was also said to have participated in the audition). By the way, Sean Astin, who plays Frodo's sidekick Sam, also used to be a child actor in films such as `` The Goonies '' (1985).

In addition, Orlando Bloom, who played the role of Legolas, who became a big hit in this film, passed the audition two days after The Graduate from drama school. Around the same time, he also appeared in the ``Pirates of the Caribbean'' series, which determined his worldwide popularity.

A veteran, a former child actor, and a rising star. It is a well-known story that the cast, with their various backgrounds, formed a strong bond and even got matching tattoos as a sign of their friendship.

When the trailer was released online, it was viewed 1.7 million times in 24 hours. It was also ranked 2nd in the fantasy category in the top 10 genres announced by the American Film Institute in 2008. 1st place was ``The Wizard of Oz'' (39), 3rd place was ``It's a Wonderful Life!'' ” (46) and the timeless masterpiece, which shows how highly acclaimed this work is.
