"Avatar" synopsis

In the 22nd century, humanity is embarking on the Avatar Project on Pandora, far from Earth. By creating an Avatar that combines the DNA of this planet's indigenous Na'vi and humans, they hope to solve the problem of the toxic atmosphere and mine minerals that will bring huge profits. Jake, a former soldier who participated in this project, was confined to a wheelchair, but after obtaining the Avatar, he regained his freedom. Jake lands on Pandora and falls in love with Neytiri, the daughter of a Na'vi chieftain. However, he has doubts about the mission that threatens Pandora's life, and is forced to make a choice that will decide the fate of this planet...

"Avatar" (2009) was directed, written and co-produced by James Cameron. This is an unprecedented gigantic project in which the landscape and natural environment of the moon Pandora outside the solar system, as well as its entire ecosystem, including the indigenous Na'vi, are "created" using computer graphics. Production began in earnest in 2005. thing. However, the project started surprisingly early, in 1994, when Cameron had written an 80-page draft.

Cameron initially envisioned his own science fiction adventure, combining elements of his favorite science fiction and adventure novels that he had been familiar with since childhood. Exploring the origins of Avatar's creation also includes influences acknowledged by Cameron himself, past works that movie buffs point out similarities to, and intentionally sprinkled religious elements. It feels like a journey full of stimulation in itself.

Where did the visuals of the satellite Pandora come from?

Cameron was obsessed with Jacques Cousteau's marine documentaries from an early age, and from high school onwards he began writing short stories and sketches of the ideas that came to him. In the 1970s, we saw floating jellyfish, bioluminescent forests and rivers, and flying sharks called ``air sharks'' (which later changed to look like rays, and then ``banshee'', which had a design more similar to bats). He is said to have painted such things as

To film the documentary Aliens of the Deep (2005), Cameron boarded an exploration boat to explore hydrothermal vents on the deep ocean floor, and was amazed by the bioluminescent flora and fauna he saw. Phases also influenced the design of the flora and fauna that appear in Avatar.

Cameron said Pandora's unique landscape, represented by its floating mountains, was inspired by scenic spots such as Huangshan in southern China. In addition, many people have pointed out the influence of Roger Dean, who is famous for illustrating the album jackets of the rock band ``Yes,'' including paintings of floating islands and giant rock arches. Dean sued for copyright infringement, but lost in 2014).

In a 2010 interview before he was sued, Cameron himself was asked if he was inspired by the mountains in the sky depicted on Yes albums, saying, ``When I was smoking marijuana (as a young man), I was inspired by (Dean's paintings).'' ``I might have seen it,'' he said.

Pandora's lush forests are inspired by the Amazon rainforest landscape. When Cameron drafted the draft in the 1990s, a movement calling for ``protecting tropical rainforests from overexploitation'' was gaining momentum mainly in the United States. Cameron has consistently sounded the alarm throughout his filmography: overconfidence in civilization and science and technology leads to crisis. Cameron, who became an avid environmentalist after watching Avatar, visited the Amazon for the first time in 2010, working with local tribes to advocate for the protection of the rainforest.
