"Big Fish" (03) Imaginative proposal
This unique love story, one of the best in the works of Tim Burton, is a treasure trove of tenderness and creativity. The highlight of the film is the scene where the protagonist's father and mother become husband and wife.
The film has the structure of a "tall tale told by a father," and places emphasis on fantastical expression rather than reality. Edward (Ewan McGregor) meets his future wife Sandra (Alison Lohman) at the circus. The romantic production of "time stops" at the moment they meet is excellent, but the proposal scene that follows is highly original.
Edward finds out that Sandra has a fiancé, but he just can't let go of his feelings for her. He continues to make strong appeals to her, such as drawing hearts in the sky from an airplane, and one day he makes a big move: planting daffodils in the entire garden of her house. When she opens the window, Sandra is overjoyed at the sight of the beautiful yellow sky, but unfortunately her fiancé comes charging in. In the midst of a tense situation, Edward takes Sandra's feelings into consideration and continues to be beaten by his fiancé...
However, he wins Sandra's love, and the two of them look at each other in a daffodil field. At this point, the crushed daffodils turn into a heart shape, showing director Burton's directing sense as if to congratulate the couple. Incidentally, the scene in which the elderly couple Edward (Albert Finney) and Sandra (Jessica Lange) embrace each other in the bathtub is also one of the most famous scenes. The main theme of this film is "reconciliation between father and son," and the scene where Edward's son Will (Billy Crudup) comes into contact with and accepts the "The Truth feelings" hidden in his father's tall tales is tear-jerking.
