An eye-popping gorgeous picture book-like animation

In addition to the previous `` Giant Peach, '' there is another stop-motion animation based on a novel by British children's author Roald Dahl. ``Fantastic Mr. Fox,'' directed by Wes Anderson, is a stop-motion film based on ``The Wonderful Father Fox,'' the story of a father fox who steals from a farm to support his family.

Mr. Fox settles down at home, works a decent job, and lives a comfortable life, but in pursuit of the ideals of his youth as a brilliant livestock thief, he turns back to thievery. Mr. Fox regains his old senses by drinking chickens, geese, and cider from three nearby farms every night, and makes his family happy and becomes lively, but he ends up incurring the wrath of the three farmers and becomes horrified. To receive a counterattack...

The original story is simpler, with the foxes digging underground and stealing more and more food from the farm they invaded, while the other animal friends turn their backs on the farmer who chases down the fox's nest with guns and tractors. A short and exciting story about having a good time. In the movie, the ideals that Mr. Fox pursues, the relationship with those around him who are at his mercy, and the battle with the farmers who are much more brutal than in the original are added to this, and with the help of the stop-motion technique, it becomes a very enjoyable work. There is. The way the wild instincts that drive Father Fox to steal are layered with the somewhat selfish ideals held by Mr. Fox, who has a family, creating a humane drama is wonderful.

Wes Anderson's works are characterized by well-thought-out illustration-like compositions, and this is especially noticeable in this puppet animation, which is not only filled with puppets but also props and backgrounds, making it so enjoyable that you won't get tired of it no matter how many times you watch it. It's full of If ``Giant Peach'' is a gimmicky picture book, this is a gorgeous picture book with a series of miniature paintings. By the way, ``Giant Peach'' director Henry Selick worked on the stop-motion animation part of Wes' ` `The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, '' and this film was originally planned by them together. Eventually, Selick left the project and moved to Studio Leica for the stop-motion film Coraline , based on a Neil Gaiman novel, which coincidentally was released in the same year as this film.

There is no end to my favorite scenes (or rather backgrounds). The interior of the house where the Fox family lives, Mr. Fox's study, his son's nursery (a solar system is hung and a model train is running), and the school's chemistry laboratory (mysterious Japanese is written in detail on the cardboard boxes containing the tools). ), Badger's office (with a Dictaphone on his desk and even a computer that looks like an iMac behind him), and the city streets where the animals and farmers fight (a rowdy station wagon parked in a laundromat) The washing machine is a beautiful color), and the supermarket where the fox family ends up (the department is colorful anyway)...

However, what I would like to mention is the dolls that play the starring roles.
