Casting for “Ai no Corrida” went through difficulties.
Q: First, I would like to ask you about ``Ai no Corrida.'' Since it is a hardcore movie, there are intense love scenes throughout the movie. But it doesn't feel naughty.
Oshima: Kichizo's (Tatsuya Fuji)'s absolute kindness towards Sada (Eiko Matsuda), and the fact that he entrusts everything to the woman, is a big part of his character. Thinking about it now, I don't think it would have been possible without Tatsuya Fuji. After all, if you can't portray the sex appeal and kindness that make women fall in love with you, there's no realism at all. I think that role was possible because of Tatsuya Fuji. Of course, Eiko Matsuda also plays Sada wonderfully.
Q: I heard that Yoichi Choi, who was the assistant director of this film, negotiated with Tatsuya Fuji to appear in the film.
Oshima: Mr. Choi was acquainted with Mr. Tatsuya Fuji. It seems that the other actors who had been offered the role before that didn't say yes, and it was difficult to decide on the lead role, so they asked Tatsuya Fuji to play the role.

Q: Who were the candidates before you decided on Tatsuya Fuji?
Oshima: There are many people, but the one that has been announced is Ichiro Araki, who starred in `` Nippon Shunkako '' (67). Mr. Araki had a funny line when he said no, and since the shooting was for a month, he said, ``Mr. Oshima, I can only be interested in one woman for about a week'' (lol).
