"The Girl in the Sea" Ruka Ishikawa x Yuzu Aoki The summer that was there as Koume and Isobe [Actor's Interview Vol.15]
Similar impressions between the original and the movie
Q: Lastly, please give us your impressions after seeing the completed work.
Aoki: I couldn't see it objectively the first time. At the time of filming, I had spent a very intense summer, so I was filled with the feelings of that time. When I looked at it again, I was left with a strange feeling, as if my own old wounds had been touched. After watching it, I thought, ``Ah, that was really good.''
This work is rated R15+, so 14-year-olds can't watch it yet, but I definitely want them to watch it when they're older, and I hope people of the generation who were in middle school back in the day can watch it, too. I think there is something about this memory that speaks to me.
Ishikawa: I was able to see it objectively from the first time. For the first 10 minutes or so, I was just finding fault with myself, but before I knew it, I was hooked on the movie. I think it was a shocking work that doesn't fit into any genre. Also, the feeling I had after watching the movie was very similar to what I felt when I finished reading the original story, so I was a little relieved and kind of happy about that.
