A film history that has accompanied Spielberg's works

Q: What made Director Tachibana decide to pursue a career in the anime industry?

Tachibana: Originally, I wanted to become a manga artist or make movies. So when I was a student, I used to bring in manga, but at the time, Toei Animation was holding entrance exams. I want to make a movie, but it seems like the training period would be long for a live-action movie. But my motivation is that if it were animation, it wouldn't be that bad (lol). At the time, Toei Animation had a directing exam, and if you passed it, you could become a director right away! That's what I thought cheekily. That's when I stepped into the world of anime.

Q: I would love to hear about director Tachibana's film history.

Tachibana: When I was a child, I watched more anime than dramas. And American movies. It was around the time that video rentals were becoming popular, so my father bought a VCR and rented movies to watch on the weekends. I loved watching movies directed by Steven Spielberg, such as ``The The Goonies '' (The Goonies) and `` Indiana Jones '' (1981-). `` Jaws '' (1975) was so scary that I couldn't watch it when I was a kid, but I watched it later (lol).

Q: Spielberg, George Lucas, Chris Columbus, etc...

Tachibana: Yes. I used to watch a lot of major works in that area. I also watched Wolfgang Petersen's `` The Neverending Story '' (1984), which I saw at a school movie night. I saw it on the big screen at the community center and was very moved.

Q: That's a wonderful story. Director Tachibana, in terms of genre, do you like fantasy?

Tachibana: That's right. It's only at the beginning that you think, ``Does this kind of world really exist?'' and ``How did they film it?'' but as you watch it, you're drawn into the story. As a child, I admired the feeling of being able to immerse myself in the world, and if I could create something like this, I wanted to do it too! That's what I thought.

After that, I went to high school and saw director James Cameron's films, and was shocked by `` Jurassic Park '' (1993), which I had high expectations for at the time. Dinosaurs are really alive and moving! I was moved by this, and my desire to make films that entertain people became even stronger. That feeling still exists today. My child is in the second grade of elementary school, and I want to make something that I can show to my child as well.
