"Weathering with You" synopsis

``I wanted to go into that light'' the summer of my first year of high school. Hodaka runs away from home from a remote island and comes to Tokyo. However, life soon became difficult, and at the end of his lonely days, he finally found work as a writer for a dubious occult magazine. As if to hint at his future, the rain continues to fall every day. Meanwhile, in a crowded corner of the city, Hodaka meets a girl. Hina is a girl who lives a cheerful and strong life with her younger brother due to certain circumstances. She had a mysterious ability. "Hey, it's going to be sunny now." The rain gradually stopped and the cityscape began to shine beautifully. It was the power to make the sky clear just by praying.

An “ambitious work” that is the complete opposite of a “culmination”

It's like a ray of sunlight separating a cloudy sky.

Or like raindrops moistening the dry earth.

It pours into my heart endlessly.

Your name is. It's safe to say that ``Weathering with You'', the first film in about three years from Makoto Shinkai, director of ``Weathering with You'' (2016), was the most notable work of 2019. “Your name is. '' became a huge hit with domestic box office revenue of over 25 billion yen, the fourth highest in history, and caused a social phenomenon, and a Hollywood remake was also decided to be directed by Marc Webb, director of `` (500) Days of Summer '' (2009). As it was a new work by its creator, it was met with anticipation on a global scale. However, what appeared before my eyes was a boldly ambitious and challenging work that gave a strong sense of director Shinkai's ``evolution'' and ``belief'' as a writer.

``Weathering with You'' is a love story depicting the interaction between a runaway boy and a mysterious girl. Hodaka, a high school student who ran away from his parents and started living in Tokyo, meets Hina, a ``100% sunny girl'' and becomes caught up in a majestic whirlpool of fate.

"Weathering with You" synopsis

Makoto Shinkai, who was in charge of the original story, script, and director of this work, is a multi-creator who originally not only directed and scripted, but also did everything by himself, including filming, editing, storyboarding, sound, and CG. It is highly popular for its beautiful depictions of landscapes that instantly grab your attention, its introverted and poetic dialogue, and its stories that delicately depict the distance between men and women, and has released a total of seven theatrical works to date, including this work. It's here.

If you follow the titles, you'll notice that they use many words associated with nature, such as "stars," "clouds," "garden," and "weather." Director Shinkai's works have several common motifs, and the most representative ones are ``nature'' and ``tradition,'' as well as ``solitude'' and ``isolation.'' These are also the skeletons that make up Weathering with You.

The setting of a romance between a boy searching for his identity and a girl with abilities is also based on ``Your Name.'' "Same as. In this way, while this film inherits the genes that flow through director Shinkai's works, it is by no means a ``culmination.'' Rather, ``Your name is. It is a series of challenges that can be called a counter to ``'', and it clearly reflects director Shinkai's pride as a writer. It's a magnificent piece of entertainment that will definitely make you cry, but deep down inside, there's a strong Arrival pulsating through the air, like an oath to regain one's true identity.
