Director Yukiko Amate's new work is the drama series ``Because I'll Forget Everything''. It is currently being streamed on Disney+'s Star. Although I was surprised at the difference in tone from the previous film, ` `That's a Kizoku '' (21), I found it addictive and entertaining enough to keep watching. There was a pleasant sense of relief throughout the drama, and personally, I felt like it was a drama directed by Mitsuhiko Kuze in the past. There must be a surprising number of people who have been waiting for a drama like this.

Director Amate said this was his first time working on a serial drama, but what was the actual production like? I spoke to him.

“Because I will forget everything” Synopsis

Why did she disappear? On Halloween night, my girlfriend of five years disappeared. Mystery writer "M" decides to look for his girlfriend "F" who suddenly disappears. However, the F that people talk about has a face that he doesn't know, and soon a surprising secret is revealed...

Q: Please tell us how you came to work on this drama.

Amate: I received a call from the producer of this work, saying, ``Would you like to do a drama based on the original work by Mr. Hiker?'' I replied, ``It looks like it would be fun. I'll read it,'' but I didn't have anything specific in mind. After that, I had a chance to meet Mr. Cinder, and from there things gradually became more concrete. This was right around the time that `` Anoko wa Kizoku '' was released.

Q: The original work is an essay written by Hibuki, but how did you go about adapting it into a script for a drama?

Amate: I was able to empathize with the nuances of each episode of the original work and the importance placed on Mr. Cinder, so I thought it would be a good fit for me. However, since it was just an essay, there was no main story. I started by deciding on the story, thinking that I needed something to support it in order to make it into a serial drama.

Q: Is it like adding a “girlfriend disappears” story?

Amate: That's right. There's a novel by Mr. Cinder called ``This is Just a Summer,'' and there are similar elements there. ``Women disappear'' sounds somewhat mysterious and poetic, but from a woman's perspective, isn't it just that she's been dumped? That's what I thought. People have their own lives, so realistically it's difficult for people to disappear. I also had a personal question, wondering what it would feel like to suddenly throw everything away one day. By making the story about the main character gradually learning about the story and background of the woman who disappeared, it would be a different approach than before, while still using the common setting of "a woman disappearing." I thought I could develop the story.

Q: How much time did it take to write the script?

Amate: I started writing at the end of January this year, so it was a pretty fast pace. I was in a situation where I had to write one chapter every three days or else I wouldn't be able to finish it in time.

Q: You didn't have much time.

Amate: Filming began in spring, and the final episode was completed in mid-September. It felt like I was writing and shooting at a fairly rapid pace.
