If this continues, growth will stop.

Q: You originally wanted to make content other than commercials, but what was it like actually making a movie?

Kanagawa: A few years ago, I directed a stage performance and a live performance, and it was very interesting to be able to hear the audience's reactions directly. When you actually receive something that you thought was interesting, you gain confidence. It was a good learning experience because you can't experience that in commercials. Anyway, I've been doing commercials for a long time, so I felt like my growth would stop if I didn't do something else soon, and I wanted to try making longer videos.

Also, the fact that it was an independent film was a huge factor. We didn't jump into the world of commercial film and made it, but we had a lot of fun making it with our friends and in our own way. In particular, I feel like the way I watch movies has changed.

Q: Please tell us about the film directors and films that have influenced you.

Kanagawa: David Fincher's `` Seven '' (1995). Up until then, I had only watched entertainment movies like ` `Back to the Future,' ' but when I first saw such a dark movie in my first year of high school, I thought it was really cool. Everything about it was cool, from the details like the delivery of Chinese noodles that Brad Pitt was eating, to the overall artwork. I've been following Fincher's films ever since. After that, as I became an adult, I gradually started watching Japanese films such as Juzo Itami.
