Create a character as yourself

Q: The basic premise is that the element of horror must be included, so I imagine that was difficult.

Shimizu: However, since we had several members, it was easy to think about who to get to do what next and what to make them suffer (laughs).

Q: How did you assign roles to each of the many members of GENERATIONS?

Shimizu: When I met the members for the first time, I heard what they were saying, their reactions, how they called each other, and I thought it would be more interesting to do it as it is in reality. Each of them has different acting experience, and they all have different opinions on horror movies, like it, watch it occasionally, don't like it, hate it, etc. Rather than me creating characters from scratch, I thought it would be better if they could just show who they are now. It's probably difficult to play yourself, but I asked them to do it in that way.

For example, Alan is the leader, but it was Sano who would say, "Shall we take a break?" I listened to his everyday life and rewrote the script each time. Even on set, I told him to feel free to say it if he thought, "I wouldn't say it like that."

Q: In the story, Nakatsuka-san plays the role of the person with psychic powers.

Shimizu: Nakatsuka-kun doesn't have as clear a psychic ability as he does in the play, but he's a mysterious character who sometimes says strange things, so I thought I'd ask Nakatsuka-kun to play a psychic role. I also heard that Mendy-san is the most easily scared, so I rewrote it to make use of that (laughs).
