The war experience I passed down to my son and the passion I learned from it for food

Q: Audrey is also one of the few people who bravely survived World War II. How did I communicate that to you?

Luke: My mother was very good at telling The Truth. He was good at conveying stories that were a bit cruel and difficult for children in an easy-to-understand and positive way. Of course, during the war, there was a severe shortage of food and it was difficult for her to go to school, making it difficult for her to go to school, but her mother never stopped smiling. It's true. My mother had a thorough philosophy of using what she experienced in the war as fuel to move forward.

Q: The reason why your mother carried spaghetti al pomodoro in her suitcase wherever she went during her lifetime was because of that war experience, right?

Luca: That's right (lol). For example, when my mother traveled to poor countries as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, she always packed a box of spaghetti, olive oil, and Balmigiano-Reggiano in her suitcase. Also, canned tomato sauce is available in almost every country. When I didn't have anything to eat, I would make my own specialty, spaghetti al pomodoro.

Even when we went on family trips, half of my mother's suitcase was filled with groceries. It was a very Italian idea, but at the same time it was due to food shortages during the war. Food was really important to her. As long as they have food, they will feel safe.
