A Japanese house built by Japanese people. So we can't compromise

What I paid the most attention to in this art set was the set of the old folk house where Hyoju and his mother live. It took over a year from design to production.

To create this set, the first thing I looked at was the environment in which the original author, Nankichi Niimi, was born and raised. There is a Niimi Nankichi Memorial Museum in Nankichi's birthplace, Handa City, Aichi Prefecture, where materials related to his works are preserved. The ``Gon'' team first visited this memorial museum. Furthermore, they visited the Japanese Folk House Garden in Kawasaki City, where old folk houses have been relocated and exhibited, and deepened their knowledge about the structure of houses. He says he gained a lot from seeing a real old folk house in person.

``Japanese people build Japanese houses, so we don't want them to be half-baked.'' Based on this idea, every detail was carefully crafted.

Paulownia was used as the main building material for the house. Paulownia has a fine and straight grain, so it fits well even in miniature size. The floor between the boards was painted with persimmon juice and polished to look like the real thing.

Driftwood was used for the beams that support the ceiling. In order to take advantage of the natural curves, other structures are adjusted according to the degree of curvature.

If you look closely, you can see ``chip marks'' carved into the pillars and beams. In the old days, when there were no saws, wood was milled by cutting it into small pieces with an ax called a chona.

This construction based on historical research makes it even more convincing that the characters live there.
