The previous work, ``Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'' (18), won the Academy Award (R) for Best Animated Feature for its innovative visual expression that seemed to be an animation straight from the comic. The sequel, ``Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,'' features Spider-Men from various universes, and each universe incorporates a wide variety of animation styles. You will be surprised by its scale, which far exceeds that of the previous work.

June 17th is singer/actor James Shigeta's birthday. In one of his masterpieces, ``Die Hard'' (1988), he passionately played the role of a Japanese American company president who acts resolutely even when his life is in danger. This work's highly precise script eliminates accidental elements and opportunistic developments from the story. The motives and actions of the characters combine to create a situation, and the gears of ``closed room suspense'' spill over into the gigantic gears of ``a skyscraper exploding,'' guiding the audience into a spectacular spectacle.
