A life-sized hero statue that changed the standard and a script that was extremely precise.

Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. A gang of armed terrorists invades the high-rise office building of the Japanese company Nakatomi Corporation, which is busy with a reward party, shoots the president to death, and takes all the employees hostage. The condition for release is the release of comrades scattered around the world. But what they were really after was $640 million in bonds sitting in a safe.

However, under such circumstances, there was only one man who escaped. New York detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) visits the building to meet his wife. A man who finds himself in the most unlucky place in the world fights against the terrorists alone and without support, even as he is stopped by the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI, who are doing their best.

``Die Hard'', produced in 1988, is one of the films that pushed the level of action movies to a higher level. The script, which is as precise as the movement of a luxury watch, eliminates accidental elements and opportunistic developments from the story. The motives and actions of the characters combine to create a situation, and eventually the gears of ``closed room suspense'' spread into the gigantic gears of ``explosion of a skyscraper,'' and the movie guides the audience into a spectacular spectacle. .

Also, in 1988, the era was dominated by machine-like "physical heroes" such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who were not afraid of death. This work introduces into this genre the image of a hero who can be described as a ``larger-than-life man'' who stands up to his predicament while cursing. The larger-than-life man, John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, redefined the character image of the genre in Hollywood and instantly changed the mainstream of action movies.

Furthermore, the character development of Hans Gruber, the terrorist leader who complements McClane, is absolutely outstanding. The cunning activist, who wears Armani leisurely and declares that he will bring divine punishment upon the proud Japanese, gradually reveals his hideous true nature in his confrontation with MacLaine. This change in tone of the character is expressed with an excellent performance by Alan Rickman, a British veteran who was 41 years old at the time. I heard that he was cast before Bruce Willis, so it can be said that the producers' bet on his unknown presence was a brilliant success.
