“Changing trials” created by a notable VFX studio

What sets "The Aeronauts" apart from other films that just sell the visuals is the detailed story and the organic nature of the emotions mentioned above, but the original visual expression is also worth seeing. Combined with the superb sound that creates a sense of realism in the story, it evokes the experience of actually floating in the air.

This may seem sudden, but have you heard of the VFX studio called RODEO FX? In fact, this is a group of experts who have worked on films such as Blade Runner 2049 (2017), The Greatest Showman (2017), the Fantastic Beasts series, the IT duology, The Game of Thrones , and the Stranger Things series. Although it is still a young company founded in Canada in 2006, over the past 14 years it has risen to become one of the VFX studios that are indispensable in Hollywood today.

RODEO FX

In this film, as they go higher into the sky, the air becomes thinner and the temperature drops, James and Amelia's hair freezes, their breath shakes, and they gradually become exhausted. The passage of time is clearly visible even in the visuals. Spread out before their eyes is a world at an altitude of 10,000 meters and a temperature of minus 50 degrees. The images beautifully tell the story of how the balloon is covered in frost, damaged by strong winds, creaking, the measuring instruments break down, and unpredictable bad weather strikes again and again.

The profound acting of Eddie and Felicity is a major highlight, but the quality of the images that thoroughly push the two of them is also an essential piece. Rather, the acting and the images compete with each other as if competing with each other's expressiveness. Most of the flying scenes in this film were shot in the air, and the cast and the cinematographer rode in the balloon together. Perhaps because of this, the "docking" feeling between the acting and the images is particularly realistic. In addition, there are vivid images that will make people with a fear of heights cringe, such as angles looking down from a balloon. I won't say much to avoid spoilers, but there is an acrobatic highlight in the second half that will surely blow the mind of many viewers.

A reunion that defines the evolution of Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. A unique story approach that incorporates flashbacks while still continuing in the present. And visuals that embody a "living sky" that changes from moment to moment so realistically that it gives the viewer the illusion that they are "in the air." With these three pillars as its backbone, "The Aeronauts" is a "balloon" that is not going to be destroyed so easily.
