Actors who brought the angelic love story to life

Wenders set a period of just nine months for the production of this work. Handke continued to send lines in bits and pieces, and Wenders began filming without a completed script. Needless to say, not having a script is a confusing situation for actors. However, Bruno Ganz, who played the role of Damiel, the angel in love, who teamed up with Wenders after `` An American Friend '' (1977), was able to pull it off. Although the appearance of a middle-aged man seems far removed from the image associated with the word angel, his calm demeanor stands out in the beautiful black and white cinematography.

Solveig Demartin, Wenders' angel in both public and private life, was originally a member of the production staff, but having studied theater, she made her debut as an actress playing the role of Marion in this film. When he lived in Paris, he attended a trapeze school to improve his physical strength, so he was perfect for the role. After three months of serious training, she took this technique to a professional level. ``She could make a living at the circus if she wanted to,'' Wenders says with confidence.

Although it is a low-budget film, it also features Hollywood star actors. Peter Falk is a popular actor best known for his role in Detective Columbo (68-78/89-03), but he is also recognized by movie fans as a regular actor in the works of New York indie genius John Cassavetes. Wenders, who admired Cassavetes, called Falk directly, explained why Falk was needed in this story, and obtained his consent to appear in the film. ``He had elements that gave credence to the fact that he was once an angel,'' Wenders says. In fact, Faulk's mild-mannered, somewhat dull character fits perfectly with the character of a former angel actor, and brings a humorous and warm atmosphere to the film.
