Why was B. Springsteen's song chosen?

The movie ``Thunder Road'', in which the talented Jim Cummings, who is currently attracting much attention, played the five roles of director, starring, screenwriter, music, and editor, is based on Bruce Springsteen 's 1975 album `` Runaway Without Tomorrow ''. The title comes from the first song " Tears of Thunder Road " (original title: Thunder Road).

At the beginning of the movie, the main character, police officer James, tries to play his mother's favorite song, ``Tears of Thunder Road,'' in his speech at his mother's funeral. The lyrics, in which a young man who is about to leave his rural town to pursue his dreams, invites his lover to ``go with me,'' perfectly echo the climax of the film, but I won't go into details here as it would be a spoiler.

Cummings himself has revealed why he chose "Tears of Thunder Road" out of many popular songs. The movie ``Thunder Road'' is a feature-length version of Cummings' short story of the same name, which he released in 2016.The initial idea for the film was a story about a friend of his who sang a song in front of the mourners at his mother's funeral. That's what I heard.

Why on earth did that person sing at the funeral? Cummings reflected on his feelings and thought that the person who had been hurt must have thought about everything. When he asked himself, ``If it were me, what would I sing at my mother's funeral?'' The only thing that came to mind was ``Tears of Thunder Road'', Cummings' mother's favorite song.

In an interview with the website MUSICBED, Cummings said, ``If I sang ``Tears of Thunder Road'' at a funeral, it would be a huge failure and a huge embarrassment, and I thought it would be a really funny, yet sincere act. ” he says. To paraphrase this comment, we could say that ``Thunder Road'' is a story about ``a clumsy man who exposes his ugliness in his pursuit of honesty.''
