“Patti Cake$” synopsis

The main character, Patty, lives with her mother, a hard-drinking former rock singer, and her grandmother, who is in a wheelchair, in her down-home New Jersey home. The 23-year-old dreamed of achieving fame like her idol OZ, the rap god, and leaving her hometown. No money, no jobs, just from the looks of it, Dumbo! For Patty, who was often ridiculed for this, hip-hop music was the cry of her soul and a miraculous secret weapon that stirred the emotions of everyone who watched it. One day, Patty defeats her rival in a freestyle rap battle with her best rhyme, and gains the courage to try again for her dream of becoming a star, which she had almost given up on. Then, a Being There to participate in a formal audition comes to her.

The bloodline of “white trash” flowing through American movies

``Patti Cake$'' depicts a woman who opens up her life through passionate rapping. The film, which received rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by FOX Searchlight Pictures, a company trusted by movie fans, is directed by newcomer Jeremy Jasper. He was born and raised in a poor family in New Jersey, and by projecting his own experiences into the story, he created a masterpiece of a youth music film. The poor white family he grew up in, a low-income group, is commonly referred to as ``white trash.'' It is said that "white trash" has become President Trump's core supporter, and this is likely because Trump has skillfully tapped into the latent anger among them, who were treated as ``forgotten and forgotten by society.''

There are many American films in which the portrayal of "white trash" is important, and this year's films alone include " Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri ," " I, Tonya, " and " The Florida Project." White, low-income people have become an important motif in outstanding works such as ``Magic .'' ``Patti Cake$'' can be placed in this vein, and there are books that are perfect for deciphering the themes depicted there.
