Why outdoor sex is erotic

Apart from the three points above - Italy, bourgeoisie, and the edge of desire - another appealing aspect of Guadagnino's work is the sex scenes that take place against the backdrop of nature. In " Italy, Bourgeoisie ", Emma visits the mountain villa where chef Antonio lives, and in the fields swarming with bees, she is bathed in sunlight and sweats, trembling with pleasure she never experienced in her Milan mansion.

In "A Bigger Splash," Paul leads Penn to a natural pool surrounded by lava, and for a moment he casts a lustful gaze at Penn as he lies naked on the rocks. By not depicting anything after that, Guadagnino instead stimulates the audience's imagination in an erotic production unique to him.

Not to mention Elio and Oliver's unbridled love affair on the Lombardy plains in Call Me by Your Name, Guadagnino's choice of camera position and framing in these scenes, as well as his sound design, which incorporates the sounds of insects and blades of grass rustling in the wind, are particularly noteworthy.

Moreover, the choice of location is particularly important. In Guadagnino's films, the background is always an effective tool to guide the story. The characters blend into the background, and the sight of them making love in nature is more erotic than indoors, and teaches us the joy of boldly releasing our desires.

As a result, Milan, San Remo, and the village of Castel Vittorio on the French border appear in "Milano," while Bergamo, Crema, and Lake Garda in northern Italy appear in "Call Me by Your Name," making location tours popular.

And in "A Bigger Splash," the film is set on the Italian island of Pantelleria, and the aforementioned natural pools, hot springs, lava sculptures, and mountainside restaurants are used as backdrops, trapping the audience on the island whether they like it or not. Although the film has a more limited escape route than the other two films in the "Trilogy of Desire," the comfortable sense of confinement created is not to be missed.
