``A Scanner Darkly'' investigates absent-minded people
``A Scanner Darkly'' is an animated film based on the novel of the same name (previously titled `` The Scanner Darkly '') by Dick.
7 years later (from a date not otherwise specified). We live in a world where all means of communication, such as telephone calls and emails, are monitored by the police. A drug called ``Substance D'' has become widespread and many people are addicted to it.
Arctor, a narcotics detective, goes undercover to find out where ``Substance D'' is sold, entering the houses where drug addicts hang out and using drugs himself to avoid suspicion. Meanwhile, Arctor is called by the Investigation Bureau and ordered to monitor "Arctor who goes in and out of a house where drug addicts hang out."
"A Scanner Darkly" preview
When undercover investigators enter and exit the Bureau of Investigation, they wear a special suit called a "scramble suit" in which 1.5 million people are randomly displayed so that even people within the Bureau do not know their identity. does not know that the person who asked him to monitor "Arctor" is "Arctor" himself. Arctor is unable to reveal his identity, and ends up having to monitor himself. Moreover, due to drugs, the line between fiction and reality remained blurred.
The story has a typical Dick theme. This film adaptation uses expressive techniques that match this theme.
