Why it continues to be cited

Even if you have seen a movie once, if you watch it again later in life, you may find that your impression of the movie has changed. This is probably because the more works that depict people of the same generation as oneself, especially those depicting youth, the more one can look at one's life from a bird's-eye view and see one's "youth" objectively.

The Breakfast Club(1985) is a film directed by John Hughes, in which five high school students, each of whom have caused different problems, are forced to attend school on Saturdays as punishment and write an essay that asks, ``What are you?'' The Blu-ray released in Japan in 2015 is labeled as the "30th Anniversary Edition." For a moment, I couldn't believe my eyes and thought, "30th anniversary?" Thirty years is about twice the age of the high school students in the play, which is set in 1984.

"The Breakfast Club" preview

As I write this article, 2020 is the 35th year since its release in the United States. The high school students who watched it in real time must now be in their 50s. There are many people who have children in high school, and it is not surprising that some of them have grandchildren. Even though so many years have passed, ``The Breakfast Club'' continues to be loved by many movie fans, and many people have pointed out that there are works that are called followers of this movie.

For example, in `` Pitch Perfect '' (2012), the main character gets a hint to rebuild his team, and in `` Bumblebee '' (2018), he imitates Bumblebee's raised fist pose. These works reference footage from The Breakfast Club. In addition, recent American youth films and popular works such as ` `Sweet 17 Monsters '' (2016), ``Eighth Grade '' (2018), and ` `Booksmart '' (2019) are also featured. This influence can also be felt in the rebooted ` `Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle '' (17).

Furthermore, the poster photo taken by Annie Leibovitz (which is also the cover photo for the soundtrack album) has spawned many parodies, and has even become a hot topic when it was imitated by the cast of `` Spider-Man: Homecoming '' (17). Ta. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said at the time, ``The next Spider-Man will be a John Hughes movie.''
