“The Hairdresser's Husband” Synopsis

Antoine fulfills his dream of marrying the owner of the barber shop he admires. When he was a boy, he fell in love with the shop owner at first sight, and when he confessed his feelings to his father, he was slapped, but that was a fond memory for him. Antoine didn't want a job, friends, or even children as long as he had a wife. It seemed as if the two were living happily ever after...

Precocious childhood memories and sustained libido

When you think of the works of French master artist Patrice Lecomte, what comes to mind first? Personally, I find passionate works such as `` The Tailor's Love '' (1989), `` The Girl on the Bridge '' (1999), and in recent years, `` End Meeting '' (13).

The works he has produced in his long career spanning over 40 years span a wide range of genres and touches. However, even though I only saw it once, there was one work that I couldn't get out of my head. ``The Hairdresser's The Hairdresser's Husband'' (1990) is a story about the daily life of a female barber and her husband. He clearly remembered every detail of the movie from the beginning to the end.

The main character of this work is, of course, the “innkeeper”. Antoine (Jean Rochefort), the husband of the barber Mathilde (Anna Galiena), looks back on his childhood and the 10-year honeymoon with his beloved Mathilde, and the way they intersect. The story progresses.

“The Hairdresser's Husband” preview

When Antoine was young, he was completely obsessed with going to the barbershop. The purpose of this is not to get a haircut, but to spend time alone with a familiar female shopkeeper who is older than me. Antoine is a precocious boy. He indulges in dubious delusions at the shampoo table, and he develops an intense admiration for the female shopkeeper, akin to love. His dream for the future is to become The Hairdresser's Husband. Even with this simple synopsis, we are reminded once again that this is a very tricky movie.

Antoine, now an adult, falls in love with Mathilde at first sight, and eventually decides to become her ``The Hairdresser's Husband''. However, the ``days of love and passion'' between the man and the woman do not begin, nor does anyone appear to tear their relationship apart. The peaceful life of these two is minimally captured within the length of the 82-minute film. This is written along with Antoine's recollections of his childhood.

When it comes to childhood, everyone has desires that may seem strange to the outside world. A simple example is wanting to become an athlete in a sport you have never experienced, or wanting to become a craftsman that requires special skills. This is, so to speak, an "impulse." However, if this urge persists, it may eventually bear fruit. In Antoine's case, it was his ``(sexual) urge = libido'' to ``become The Hairdresser's Husband.'' It is no wonder that young people have this condition, and that it persists into adulthood.
