"Dynamite Graffiti" synopsis

Akira Suei was born and raised in a rural town in Okayama where there are no buses, and at the age of 7 he experiences the shocking death of his mother. A mother suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and abandoned by doctors hugs her neighbor's only son in the mountains, ignites dynamite, and explodes! I committed suicide. Suei then moved to Tokyo, worked as a cabaret signboard painter and illustrator, and then worked for a small erotic magazine publisher. As editor-in-chief, he launches a new type of erotic magazine. During his days of struggle, he met Nobuyoshi Araki, and other great artists such as Shinbo Minami, Genpei Akasegawa, and Kozaburo Arashiyama gathered around Suei. Repeatedly being banned and launched, he released numerous magazines into the world, including ``Weekend Super'' and the later legendary ``Photo Jidai.''

What is the history of the industry revealed through the life of charismatic magazine editor Akira Suei?

Director Masayoshi Tominaga's new work ``Dynamite Graffiti'' is based on the autobiographical essay book of the same name by Akira Suei (born 1948), a legendary and charismatic magazine editor who is currently active primarily as a writer. That's what I did. This movie, which depicts Suei's turbulent life from the age of 18 to 40, with Tasuku Emoto's unique performance, can be enjoyed from the perspective of an ``industry product.''

``NEW self'' (launched in 1975), ``Weekend Super'' (launched in 1977), and ``Photo Jidai'' (launched in 1981), which Suei worked on as editor-in-chief at Self Publishing (now Byakuya Shobo), are so-called. It was distinctive in that it featured articles on core subcultures while taking on the appearance of an erotic magazine. In the movie, musician and writer Naruyoshi Kikuchi plays the role of the photographer ``Araki-san'' (of course, Nobuyoshi Araki, also known as the genius Araki), who was said to be a great duo with Suei, but in this movie. It can be said that this film is an attempt to relive the freedom of doing anything that was swirling around the publishing industry at the time.
