“The Fever Pitch” Synopsis

One day, career woman Lindsay meets Ben, a math teacher, and they fall in love. However, he has been an enthusiastic fan of the local baseball team, the Red Sox, since he was a boy, and after the start of the Major League Baseball season, his entire life became a supporter of the Red Sox...

When Peter Farrelly's ` `Green Book '' (2018) won the Golden Globe for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), many people must have wondered, ``What the heck is going on?'' It's Farrelly from `` There's Something About Mary '' (1998) and `` The New Three Idiots: The Movie '' (12). The previous movie was `` The Return of Mr. Dummer: Baka MAX! '' (14). When it finally won the Academy Award, you must have thought, ``Isn't it a different person with the same name?'' Farrelly's risque selection of topics, vulgar jokes, and lame gags may earn him enthusiastic support from some audiences, but he never gets involved in the awards race. I think that was the honest opinion of a fan who loved Farrelly's films.

By the way, the author, who is a big fan of Farrelly, rushed to the theater on the first day of ``Green Book'' to see it twice in a row. I could never have imagined that a day like this would ever come when I watched Farrelly with a packed audience and laughed and cried. It was a dream-like experience for Farrelly's lone fans. After all, I have been saying for many years that the Farrelly brothers are the ``legitimate heirs of traditional American cinema.''

Based on the British best-selling novel

Farrelly takes racy themes and turns them into ridiculous yet endearing comedies. `` The Kingpin '' (1996) made fun of the Amish, `` The Kingpin '' (2003) depicted the exploits of conjoined twins, and ``There's Something About Mary'' depicted Cameron Diaz as a vulgar Dropped mercilessly into the melting pot of gags.

Among their filmography, ``The Fever Pitch'' (05: Fever Pitch) has a relatively orthodox setting and is less exciting. The original story is a novel called `` Fever Pitch: A Fan's Life,'' which was published in the UK and became a bestseller. This work, which depicts the passionate supporters of Arsenal FC in the English Premier League, was made into a film in 1997 starring Colin Firth. This game replaces this setting with the American Major League Baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.

“Fever Pitch” preview

Initially, the project was progressing without a director, with Drew Barrymore, who stars in the film, also serving as executive producer. Screenplay by Lowell Ganz and Babalu Mandel. The two are big screenwriters with a strong pedigree, having previously worked on works by Ron Howard and Penny Marshall. After the script and main cast were finalized and everything was set, the Farrelly brothers decided to participate. It is rare to find a work in which they do not participate in the script or advance rewrites, let alone the production. Perhaps out of respect for the big screenwriter, the usual vulgar gags are toned down, with Farrelly saying, ``This is the first work that has been liked by women.'' Incidentally, the Farrelly brothers are also avid Red Sox fans.
